This Government offers "no hope" to battle pensioner poverty

Winter is coming, the government must get help to those who need it, to our most struggling fuel poor citizens.

On the 9th of November 2023 Barry made a spoke up for those suffering from fuel poverty in the King’s Speech debate on Energy Security.

If we levelled tax on oil and gas at the global average we would have “an extra £14 billion into the public purse” - how can the Government explain this to the 4706 families who lost families to excess deaths during winter? It’s simple, she can’t.

The Government's crime policies are nothing but "window dressing"

On the 7th of November 2023 Barry went on LBC Cross Questions with Iain Dale in reaction the King’s Speech. The panel answered questions on criminal sentencing laws, pro-palestine protests, if Suella Braverman is a “decent” Home Secretary and the Covid Inquiry.

Barry argued that, whilst he welcomes tougher sentences for violent crimes, they are nothing but “window dressing” without increasing court and prison capacity.

Green Grids Initiative-One Sun One World one Grid

Barry attended the COP 27 conference in Egypt, attending and speaking at a number of ‘side events’ to the main conference.

These included the Green Grids Initiative-One Sun One World One Grid: Green grids accelerators and the role of research, parliamentarians and civil society .

The session showcased the progress made and research underpinning the Green Grids Initiative-One Sun One World One Grid (GGI-OSOWOG), a global initiative to accelerate the energy transition launched by world leaders at COP26.

It also brought together key actors across the GGI Ecosystem to discuss the challenges of building green grids, what needs to be done, and how — by working in partnership with a multiplicity of actors—we can accelerate the global energy transition.

Many have spoken of her life as a pattern of duty and service. And it was.

“Integrity is not commonly found in the public sphere these days. But her life was one of real integrity. We should thank God that she brought together all these virtues in her life. It was a life that was selfless. It was a life that was whole. And now it is complete.

“May her soul rest in peace.”

Barry joins St Monica Trust picket lines

Barry joined striking Unison members on their picket lines at the Bristol Cote Lane and the Sandford sites of the St Monica Trust, on Monday 11 July.

These low paid care workers are being subjected to brutal fire and rehire tactics, being told they must sign new contracts that will result in the loss of up to 21% of their pay, or lose their jobs.

But their biggest concern, as they explained to Barry, is the use of agency staff by the Trust, who are not skilled or experienced. Barry later raised this in the House of Commons and called on the minister to refer the Trust to the Health and Safety Executive.

Barry tells MPs that Royal Mail decides daily 'which streets do not receive letters'

Barry told the House of Commons that Royal Mail delivery offices across the country are deciding each day which streets do not receive letters after a “failure” in restructuring.

He warned that hundreds of jobs losses among Royal Mail managers was putting a huge strain on the postal service and called for an urgent statement by the business secretary Kwasi Kwateng about the failure of the senior management in Royal Mail to implement a restructure that actually delivers service for the people of this country.
