Barry Gardiner MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade, Europe, Energy & Climate Change, responding to the granting of planning permission to the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm, said:
“This project will make the most of the UK’s fantastic wind reserves. The UK can lead the world in renewable energy, creating good jobs where they are sorely needed as we transition to a low-carbon economy.
The cost of renewables continues to fall, but the Tories are still leaving investors in the dark over their long-term plan for our power. They have added to energy bills by cutting out onshore wind, negotiating a hugely expensive rate for Hinkley Point and cut the funding for CCS at the eleventh hour.
It is vital that Britain continues to be an attractive destination for investment in clean energy. But that means government must stop sending mixed messages to investors with incoherent stop start policy decisions.”
