First Day at Paris Climate Talks

I arrived yesterday at the COP21 climate talks and it’s great to be here. I’ve attended many of these conferences - and there really is a different feel here in Paris...

There’s so much depending on what happens in the coming days.

There’s a sense of real expectation.

There’s a sense that we’re at the start of a journey, rather than its end – but that we now know how to reach our destination.

And that’s the point of COP21. All the countries have come together, they’ve made their pledges and, while these don’t yet go far enough, if we can ratchet them up over the next five years to 2020, then we really are getting into the driving seat on managing dangerous climate change.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s been emailing, marching, tweeting and generally making their voice heard on securing a bold, binding agreement here in Paris. I’ll be sure to keep you posted in the coming days, and you can also follow my updates on Twitter at @BarryGardiner
