Following the reports of a double stabbing on Tuesday afternoon I immediately contacted the Borough Commander. My office has been in further contact with the Chief Superintendent’s office. I can provide the following update.
I am advised by the on call Superintendent that the Police convened a command team meeting today to discuss the violent incidents that occurred this week and their response to them. I am assured that the Police completely understand the impact these attacks have had on residents and they are taking action to reassure the public.
The Police’s current belief is that the incident in Preston Park last night is not linked to the two shootings that occurred over the weekend in Monks Park and nearby on the Harrow Road. One male remains in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the attack in Preston Park.
A significant policing operation is now in place for the next three weeks in Brent, using local officers bolstered with a substantial number of central Met Police resources in both uniform and plain clothes to target and disrupt violent criminals in the borough. At the same time I am advised they will be providing uniform reassurance patrols to the impacted areas of Monks Park and Preston Park.
I will be meeting with the Acting Chief Superintendent to discuss the very serious crimes that have taken place. Please rest assured that I will continue to work with the Police and the Local Authority to ensure they are using all the powers available to them to disrupt the criminal gangs to prevent further such violence in our community.
If you are a resident of Brent North and you have any concerns regarding this matter, or any other, please do not hesitate to contact my office at email@example.com.
