*It should be noted that Mr Gardiner's staffing costs budget shows an exceptionally high figure for the 2006-2007 financial year. In the course of protecting a family in his constituency from harassment by an individual Mr Gardiner was himself subject to litigation by the individual concerned. Mr Gardiner incurred legal costs in defending this vexatious and frivolous claim. Although he won the case and was awarded his costs in full the individual has not yet paid Mr Gardiner's costs in accordance with the court judgement. Parliament's finance and administration department have allowed him to carry across funds from other budget headings and financial years to meet the cost of the legal fees resulting in the exceptionally high figure recorded above.
